Since the pandemic, small businesses have been struggling to make it through the recession and have had to make dramatic changes in order for their company to survive. Spending money on small businesses supports our local economy and keeps business booming. It also is great because they create and sustain jobs to keep the community vibrant. I love shopping small because it lowers my carbon footprint and has a reduced environmental impact. To support these designers and small shops this holiday season, I’ve put together a curated list of my favorite small business to shop for stocking stuffers and small gifts for your friends and family:
Even Keel is a Brooklyn-based apothecary and soap house that has a fantastic line of handcrafted soaps made from earth’s natural ingredients. They have natural soaps and candles that are infused with relaxing essential oils and saponified infused botanical oils. The company just released an amazing line of bath bombs and diffusers that are perfect stocking stuffers.
Kate Weiser has some of the best chocolates for gift giving, not to mention that they are also delicious. Named Top 10 Chocolatiers in North America by Dessert Professional Magazine in 2014, Kate Weiser is based in Dallas, Texas. Her signature bonbons take 6 days to make and are carefully crafted with top-notch ingredients. They come in over 25 exciting flavors such as strawberry basil, mango habanero, and pistachio peach.
This small business has the perfect dainty jewelry made for any occasion. Local to Columbus, Red Giraffe Designs handmakes each one of their pieces. The goal of the company was to make beautiful and affordable jewelry and they successfully did it! Most earrings and necklaces are about $30, which is a perfect little gift for any friend or family member. You can also customize jewelry with hand stamping here.
This high end, luxury homeware brand is women-owned and inspired, and is the perfect gift for any occasion during the holidays. Their products are simple and timeless, with products being handcrafted and manufactured with intention. They are known for the Elated Coupe, a glass that is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in Slovenia. Over the course of 30 days, the crystal glass is hand-blown, cooled, and fire polished.
Tyler Böe is a modern and chic family owned lifestyle brand that is fashion forward. They bring contemporary designs and turn them into pieces with a modern twist. They just brought in amazing pieces for the holidays, like this gorgeous cashmere ruffle wrap. This small business pays attention to the subtle details, and each piece is unique and recognizable.
Emphasizing sustainability and practicality, Whimsical Charm is a small business based out of Long Beach, California that crafts embroidered blankets. Their goal is to invest and provide support for youth in underserved, disadvantaged communities. The blankets curated by the business are warm, comforting, and stylish. They are perfect for newborns, friends, and family alike.
Cadence is a small business based on making your product packaging last by selling customizable, leakproof, magnetic capsules designed to store and protect your products. Made from recycled ocean plastics, these containers are perfect for those who love to travel and value sustainability. I love their six-capsule bundle curated for transporting my everyday essentials.
Who doesn’t love coffee? Treeline has mastered the art of single-serving pour overs for any occasion. Packed with high-quality ingredients and ready-to-brew beans, all you need is hot water and a mug. Their coffee is thoughtfully sourced and uses single-origin beans from farms that emphasize quality production, ethical working conditions, and sustainable practices. Shop their 10-pack of Geo pour over coffee here.
Hi Wildflower is the perfect gift for the socially conscious woman who wants to look and smell amazing. This small beauty and fragrance business is based on the muse of wildflowers across the world and each scent is carefully crafted based on a location, such as their Mojave rollerball perfume inspired by the barren wilderness.
Based in Alexandria, Virginia, Jennifer Allevato brings your home to life with her colorful, post-impressionism works. Her pieces bring softness and a sense of stillness into your space while still brightening up the walls. Echoing classical floral portraits, these pieces are rich in color and heavily laden with delicious fruits and flowers, such as this “From a Table in New Orleans” print.
If you’re stuck on what to buy your friends and family for the holidays, this list should give you plenty of inspiration! Have you thought about supporting small businesses during this time? Leave a comment and let me know!
