In Candace Cameron Bure’s book “Kind is the New Classy,” she explains all about how you make a huge impact on the world by simply choosing kindness. In this book, Candace discusses hard decisions in her life, such as putting her acting career on hold to raise her kids and how she returned to acting afterward. Candace believes that what makes women truly remarkable is kindness, love, patience, faithfulness and self-control. Here are four life lessons that you can take away from her newest book.
Keep your cool under pressure
One of Candace’s biggest lessons in this book is learning to keep cool under pressure. As a mom, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Before we know it we are contemplating whether or not we should just say forget this and crack open a bottle of wine instead. In her book, Candace encourages you to learn how to keep your cool even when you’re under pressure. There will be many trials in your life, and you need to learn how to keep your cool.
Respond to criticism with grace
There are always going to be haters in your life, and criticism is a given. If you are a homeschool mom you will be criticized for keeping them home, if you order takeout, you’ll be told that you don’t cook them a well-balanced meal every day, and over time it can start to feel like too much. Instead of yelling back at them or responding with hate, choose to instead respond with grace. We don’t know what’s going on in their lives, and by choosing grace instead you are showing them kindness despite their negativity toward you.
Be true to who you are despite the expectations of others
If you don’t want to eat organic, don’t. If you don’t want to wear makeup every day, then don’t! It is so easy to get swayed into all the latest trends even when you don’t really like them. People are always going to expect so much from you, and it will always be impossible to live up to those expectations. No matter what you care about, stay true to who you are even if people expect differently from you.
Remember what matters most
It is easy to get so caught up in all the little things that you forget about what matters most to you. Remember to stay centered and focus on only the things that matter the most to you. This might be your kids, eating healthy, or a variety of other things. But remember that not everything is going to be the most important thing in the world. When you get distracted, find your center and focus on what matters the most.
You don’t have to have an acting career to learn the powerful message behind the book “Kind is the New Classy.” Candace’s message about kindness and making an impact is one that will stick with me for years to come, and I hope it will for you as well.
