How to Help Your Kiddo Who Struggles to Get Out Of Bed in the Morning

There are morning people, who enjoy getting up at the wee hours of the morning, ready to get their day started. And then there are night owls who generally stay up until the wee hours of the morning and struggle to get out of bed the next day. If you have a kiddo who is not a morning person, it can be incredibly difficult to have a smooth start to your day, but not to worry. Here are some great ways to help get your kiddo out of bed in the morning.

Allow for Sufficient Sleep

A lack of sleep is a big reason why people sometimes struggle getting out of bed in the morning. If your child stays up late and gets up early, it is no wonder why getting out of bed in the morning can be a struggle. Bedtimes do not necessarily have to be early, however, you must consider what time your little one must be up in the morning. Allow for at least 10 hours of good sleep each night, to help your kiddo feel refreshed and ready to get up in the morning.

Avoid the Morning Rush

Do you walk into your child’s room first thing in the morning and demand they get out of bed instantly? This is a mistake many parents make, mostly because time is an issue in the mornings. Instead of walking in, and dragging your child out of bed, take a few extra minutes and help them wake up. Lay down in bed next to your littles, or even lean up against their bed and try to spark a small conversation about how they slept and if they dreamt about anything. Just be sure to keep it simple, and avoid important topics, as your child likely will not remember the entire conversation.

Prepare an Enticing Breakfast

The aroma of freshly made eggs and pancakes is all it takes sometimes to help awaken your child’s senses. Prepare a nice breakfast for your kiddo and then open up their door. Give your child a little tap, and as they wake up, ask them to guess what you made for breakfast just by smelling the air. This will get their brains churning and help peel them from their bed.

Turn on Some Music

Shatter the sleep-inducing quiet by quietly turning on your kiddo’s favorite Pandora station or CD. By giving them something upbeat, that they enjoy listening to it will help get their body moving, and set a good tone to begin their morning.

Not everyone enjoys getting up in the morning, but with these tips, you can make it a little less stressful for your kiddos! How do you help your not-so-morning person get out of bed in the morning? Let’s hear your tips!
